The 1957-on all-alloy 8" front brakes have an elliptical-shaped brake cam, instead of the flat cam with rounded tips as on earlier front drums, and the rear ones. Many years ago I bought one of these, intending to fit it to the 8" half-alloy, iron drum full width hub as on the 1955-7 Dominators.
Recently, a friend turned up one of these alloy/iron brakes. I had a look at the cam, and it is the tapered, elliptical cam as on the 1957-on brakes. The pivot shaft is about 1/2" shorter, so it is not a part borrowed from the later alloy brake. So, was this cam fitted to later production of the alloy/iron full width hub, or is it borrowed from another bike?
