1970 Mk2 fastback side panel

Forums

Can anyone please shed any light on a slight problem I have with a total rebuild of a bike (1970 Mk.2 Fastback) purchased in boxes. The bike is almost complete now, having reassembled the whole bike mostly from memory. I have question; the LH side panel is supported at the top of the panel by 2 brackets and grommets to the frame and the panel then swings in towards the battery tray and is secured via a roto lock fastener. There is a plastic keeper that locates in the battery tray, a plastic escutcheon that fits in the hole in the side panel from the outside, a rubber washer which is glued to the inside of the panel where the hole is and then the actual roto lock fastener secures the panel by passing through the escutcheon, the panel, the rubber and finally into the keeper and then turned half a turn to lock in place. I hope all that makes sense! My problem is that I feel there should be a spring maybe or a thicker rubber washer pushing out from the keeper against the panel so as to put tension on the panel and in turn the roto lock so as to prevent the roto lock from dislocating and of course the panel rattling around. Can anyone please confirm how the LH side panel should be secured, I just feel there should be some form of tension applied to the panel acting against the roto lock fastener.

Many thanks for reading,

Gary

I finally got this problem sorted. AN could not supply the correct rotolock fastener and according to their information there is only the fastener that they have already supplied available. I spoke with a really helpful chap at Norvil, he went to the trouble to pick the rotolock that they had available, confirmed the measurements etc. Received 2 days later and problem solved.

A big thumbs up for Norvil
