Just to satisfy my curiosity, what does the battery tray/mount look like on a 88/99 etc when the side panels are there still?
I realise the oil tank is different and have seen one of them.

Mine is also a 1960, it had a similar clamp to the one in the standard battery box but held with springs rather than bolts.

A couple of different types , mine a 1960 has a tray with a clamping strip accross the bottom of the battery ( 2 allen bolts into welded nuts) and should have a rubber strap over the battery ,I have substituted a non perishing leather strap from a Jako skate. Some had a couple of J bolts and a metal angle holding the battery down (I think).
