Hello all and thanks in advance for any advice. Went for longish - 150 miles - run on Sunday through hills North of Melbourne with some fairly hard riding and the bike didn't miss a beat until coming back into heavy, stop/start traffic near the city. It began to take longer for the revs to drop to normal idle and eventually would not return to idle at all. No rev counter but it seemed to be at least 2000 rpm. Finally at a red light I killed the engine, then restarted on the green and the problem more or less disappeared for the rest of the run home although I was careful with the throttle. I have a Mk1 concentric, new throttle cable with the cable run free of restrictions as far as I can tell. Weather was low to mid twenties. Any thoughts ?
Cheers, Terry Blenheim

Might be just a cable that…
Might be just a cable that needs lube or a bit more slack.

Auto advance not dropping…
Auto advance not dropping back to fully retarded will have same effect on tickover.

My thoughts
My thoughts John, Adv/Rtd not dropping back -but would that have responded so well to the short engine kill? I doubt it. But I can understand the carb/manifold changing temp for a few moments switch off and correcting itself. But (again) it doesn't take much change in the advance of the engine to up set the tickover. We don't know if this bike is original points or electronic. If the latter then sticky ad/rtd is not relevant.

If the two nuts which hold the carb to the manifold are over tightened the body will distort and jam the throttle valve. If this happens on full throttle things get interesting especially if you don't have a kill switch fitted.
