Wassel on an Electra

Forums

I recently purchased a Wassel Electronic Ignition for my 1963 Electra.  After pulling out all the old wiring and cutting and fitting the new electrical components.  Much to my chagrin the holes on the Wassel stator do not line up with the holes on the Electra.  The Electra holes are 6.68 cm and the Wassel stator holes are 5.7 cm apart.  I don't know if I'm missing anything on the bike since it came with an aftermarket ignition for which I could find no source still in existence.

Anyone have any suggestions?  I'm loathe to chalk this up as a painful learning experience and I still don't have a functional ignition system.

Thanks  :(

Can you not make up an intermediate conversion plate?  I notice that some of the rev counter drives for the larger engines have these fitted to help sort out similar bolt spacing differences.

The first thing to note is that if the advert/paperwork for the ignition specifically states LIGHTWEIGHT Norton then you return the ignition as NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE. Then of course you can buy a Boyer or Pazon especially for the Lightweight.

PS As all of these ignitions use 2X 6V ignition coils in series, it is recommended that you use/obtain 2X6V Wipac. The angled output fitting neatly under the tank and reliability-no issue.

The dimensions for the Electra/all lightweight is in line with the Wipac points plate, while the smaller dimension is for the standard Lucas dimension which fits-Late Atlas, Mercury, All Commando. (and all Triumphs and BSA of the period but we won't mention them!)
