Help with correct battery box for ‘49 Inter

Forums

Hi All, I have a ‘49 Inter and do very little work myself, my job is mostly to source parts. My mechanic has asked me to find a battery box & thinks it should be the T shaped Lucas box but most listings state this should be pre-war models. Which is the correct one?My Inter

Hi Jennifer,

It was just around 1949 that the battery type changed from the "T" type to the later square one. You need to photo the other side of the bike including the battery frame bolted at the side of the oil tank. By the way, it looks like you have a pipe connected between the petrol tank and the cambox oil feed pipe from the crankcases, so if you have recently bought this bike you might want to check it out all through before trying to use it.

Richard , I think it’s an optical.... The braided hose is onto a spigot tube off the head. The fuel tap is not in the tank...

Regardless the machine is looking a little precarious around the rear wheel also.
Let’s have a pic of the other side, but please move the rear wheel deeper onto the forks before you wheel it out of the trailer.

I think I have a frame for the square type if needed.

Cheers

Jon

Hi Jennifer/Jon,

Yes, I copied and zoomed in on the photo and can see the detail now, although I have never found the clear braided plastic very good as it soon hardens with heat but it is good for checking circulation. I was going to comment on the rear wheel but see there was no chain fitted and thought this might have been done to check the clearance on the new mudguard. Another item is the magneto which looks like it is a tight wire advance, so bear this in mind when you try to start and run the engine.
