thread form

hello now can anyone tell me the thread from on these new hexagon riders foot rest bar Has I Have just bought one from our spares shop and no information on its thread form   has my old Original nuts will not  fit  so what thread is it  please   Yours  Anna J

Hi Anna,

The thread form on a new hex bar for lightweight footrests is 1/2 ins BSCy at each end.

Hope this helps.

I've seen old ones where the thread is 1/2 ins BSW and 3/16 ins BSW. All desperate measures to repair a stripped 1/2 BSCy thread. Your original nuts might be to suit a recut coarse thread like these..

hello now thank you peter for this in formation and I think I may need some help with putting this engine back together as well  I just need to clean every thing first but all look like its in very good order the only puzzle is witch way round the two plunger type oil relief valve go round in the ends of the cam shafts Its I forgotten   With everything else I have too do as I am single so life that bit harder, now again thank you all  now stay safe  yours  anna j

Hi Anna, 

I replaced my front footrest hex bar with a club stainless steel one two weeks ago and had a similar problem with the original nuts.  I've just checked the NOC spares and they have the correct 1/2" BSY nuts in the stainless steel section in stock part number E4549 (SS2367B) for £2.50 + VAT each.  I bought a pair for mine and they fitted perfectly.   I hope that solves your problem!  Nick

I have an Electra engine in bits at the mooment. The thrust plug spring goes in the camshaft first and then the plug iiself. (I assume they are the same on the smaller engines as I don't see why thet would change.)

I confirm that's the same on all Lightweights except the VERY early Jubilee. These had no plungers in the camshaft ends, nor corresponding holes in the camshafts.

I suppose the plungers were added in an attempt to keep the valve train a bit quieter and stop the contact breaker cam/auto advance drifting in and out.

No wonder mixing and matching Lightweight parts is such a minefield.
