This year Norton Day was held at the National Motorcycle Museum at Solihull on July 24th. Despite warnings of bad weather and high levels of Covid-19 in the area, around 100 members braved the elements and were rewarded by an almost dry day. Although the numbers were fairly low, the quality of bikes on display was very good and prizes were awarded to the best in each class. In the evening, the club hosted a 'Gala Dinner' in the 'Bracebridge Suite'. This was preceded by a novel awards ceremony where we were able to show photos of each winner who will receive engraved trophies in the post.
Honoured guests at the Dinner were Norton's new Chief Technical Officer Vittorio Urciuoli and his delightful wife Victoria. We also heard from our Club President, Mike Jackson and Vice President, Barry Owen. Dinner Guests also took part in a Gala Raffle with prizes from amongst others, former Norton CEO, John Russell, Les Emery and Roger Maynard of RGM.
Some members regrettably had problems at the local IBIS hotel but most were able to take part in a visit to the nearby Norton Factory the next morning. All in all it was a very worthwhile event and gave members the opportunity of meeting up in a central location and the opportunity to welcome Norton's new owners.
