Talking to a ex Commando and brit bike owner recently and he said after his bikes had done a few miles every time he did an oil change he added an oil additive that prevented smoking and reduced oil consumption .
I've just dismantled my forks on my 1972 Commando as they were ratting a bit.
My rebuilt gearbox, newly installed in the bike, spins reassuring freely. However, as soon as I tighten the nut on the gearbox sprocket, even hand tight, the sleeve gear turns noticeably less freely.

I am reassembling the cylinder head on my 1972 Commando and I notice that if the slots on the rocker spindles are lined up to fit the retaining plate, the oilways are blocked.
