Works Norton Query

Forums

Newbie member back again folks. I have had six months that I am finding difficult to get my head around. After a lifetime being around my Norton fanatical father Buffy, we were forced to bid him farewell last September, three weeks short of his 87th birthday. It has been devastating.
The outcome of this is that I have inherited two of the bikes from his 20 machine collection. They are a pair (a 350cc and 500cc) of 1953 works Manx Nortons, along with spare engines and many, many parts. To be honest, I don't really completely know what I have.
There are lots of details about where they have come from, but the most original machine, the 350, was purchased as a complete bike in 1978.
It was very special to dad as it is the actual bike ridden by New Zealander Ken Mudford, filling in for an injured Ray Amm when Ken won his only European Grand Prix, the Ulster 'Junior' for the Norton team in 1953. Please see the attached photo of Ken on the bike winning from the August 20th 1953 Motor Cycling magazine.
Long story short, among dad's paperwork is tuning and technical data for the 350 works machine that came through many (?) hands. But originated from a gentleman called Geoff Proctor. See the other attached attached.
Is anyone able to enlighten me who was or is 'Geoff Proctor'. Dad told me many things and I wish I had been a better listener. I will also post this on the Norton Manx facebook page.
Thanks, Stephen.
