wiring question

Forums

I is me again !  Help please learned ones .

Is there a tool, or an easy way  to remove pins from  Lucas multi -connectors which join main loom to switch gear.

If not , who supplies new connector sets to re solder .

The rubber female connectors will normally be split or on the point of splitting inside so I destroy these if the male does not pull out easily. So plan to replace the females by having new replacements to hand and always use silicone grease so in future the males just pull out by the wire.

For parts then this is one of the makers of the current looms.

Two small flat blade screwdrivers. Press the tangs that flare out inside the connector body back inline and push/pull terminal out. Don't think the orginal Lucas connectors are available anymore so you're probably going to end up cutting the old connectors off anyway.

For replacement, I like Deutsch connectors like these : https://kojaycat.co.uk/epages/950000457.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/950000457/Categories/Connectors_Bullet/%22Deutsch%20Connectors%22

Other suppliers are available.

Best to crimp only. Solder makes it more likely cable will break.

Or plastic housing with barbed male and female contacts?
Bullets are prone to holding water and corroding. Once assembled the silicone grease is a good way to seal from water. Make sure you assemble first as silicon is an electrical insulator also.  You can get conductive grease as used in the electronic industry for heat sinks etc.

if it’s the plastic automotive style with barbs holding the contacts in place.  There are tools readily available in sets with varying styles to use to hold the barb down so you can withdraw the contact. Horrible things fragile and not really suited to motorcycles living in four seasons weather.

My new loom has the plastic 6 cable connector which had been previously spliced onto bullets to connect to the handlebar switchgear. I am trying to loose the bullets, and have only one set of connections instead of 2 .
