Wideline Frame

I have a wideline frame with a bolted on rear section built into a Triton.

Looking at the history on the web site it implies only the very early 1950 frames were of the bolt up type but looking through various forum questions there seem to be frames from 1950 into 1953 built this way.

Can any one confirm how long the bolted frame was produced and roughly how many frames might of been made?

As I know it last ones were 54 model so that would imply up to Sept 54.

I had a 54 Dommi 88 with bolt up sub frame and slow bend main frame. Same format as early Manx but made of standard mild steel tube material. F/beds started selling to the public in Nov 51 but mainly export models as there were plenty of backlog frames to move on.
I’ve  never seen earlier than 54 but it’s not my bag others will advise.

cheers

As far as I'm aware the Featherbed Dommi'  made it's first appearance at the 1951 Earles Court Motorcycle show.My 51 Dommi' which I have owned since Nov' 56 is,  like Jeanette's Sif bronze welded. I think the last bolt up frames were produced in 1954, but  can't say when all welded came into being,  during 54 or at the end of.

Why the question Phil?  You thinking of ditching it??  Does it have a number on the left side swing arm flange?  It will give you an indication of the year and the model it was built for.  And as Anna has said,... many times..., check out the date stamp on the fillet, top of steering head; year and date numerals in small punched marks on top edge.  Paint may hide it but chalk dusting will  reveal...

These were the original frames and quite sought after.  If its an early build Triton with a slow bend from the vertical behind the gearbox and the right material tubing you could well have a very sought after frame.

Send a Pic, someone will  know...

Cheers

The last wideline frames, with the bolt on rear subframe, were used on the 1954 model.  Frame number prefix J122.
