I have two new 6 volt 1 9/16” diameter coils. The new wires fit into the coils but when the ends are crimped onto the wires they do not fit into the coils. Any suggestions?

I think....
... he's talking about the HT leads? These usually have a brass terminal which has a spike that goes into the conductor - copper is best - and then wraps around the insulator. They're normally not crimped as such but just squeezed into place with pliers. They can be quite hard to push in. Or you may have the wrong diameter HT leads?

Does sound like HT leads but…
Does sound like HT leads but could still be Low Tension wires. Hence why pictures would be good.

You best take some pics of what you have.
The bike harness should have Lucas female connectors on the wires and the coil terminals have male connectors fixed with nuts onto the coil threaded terminals. You have to transfer the male connectors from the old coils to the new. If you don't have old coils then you need the male connectors. Pics would be best as previous owners could have modified the setup.
