What model dynamo

Forums

Good afternoon,

First of all please allow me to introduce myself as I am a new member.

I have recently purchased a 99 dominator, however at some point in its life it has been fitted with an earlier 500cc engine. This earlier engine is currently missing the dynamo and I am looking to replace this before I think about whether to recondition the magneto or look at electronic ignition kits.

My first port of call on the dynamo hunt is going to be the founders day rally this weekend. Does anyone have any information that is likely to make my hunt any easier, part or model numbers etc.

I would be grateful of any assistance offered.

Cheers,

Chris

You want a Lucas E3L dynamo. Pretty common, easily rebuilt. You can also rebuild it with a new armature and field coil to give a reliable 12 volts. Makes quite a difference to night riding, believe me! Gordon.

Would you happen to know if the part No. needs to be 20037? I have managed to find an E3L dynamo but it has the 20035 A stamped on it

Cheers,

Chris

Sorry, don't know. However, make sure you get one with the correct shaft - some are tapered (for BSA for instance) and some are parallel (Norton if I remember - a long time since I last worked on a dynamo 99). Having said that, new complete armatures with the correct shaft are readily available if you can't get the correct one. Gordon.
