Vintage plates

I purchased my bike new in 1971 in the UK. I now reside in the USA My plate was mounted on the headlight with yellow trim around it, black background. But I do not know the letter color. Can some one help me either in the color or someone that reproduces plates.

Also is it possible to do a plate lookup to get the right number and letters. The bike was purchassed from Commerfords. Thanks

Black background could only have white or silver numbers, the UK records can only be accessed if they still exist by knowing the number.

Would you be able to tell me how to contact the DVLA to gain that info? I know the plate number and date of sale. The bike was purchassed at Commerfords. Thanks

This is the link to the UK DVLA vehicle check, you need to select Norton as the make and enter the registration number without any gaps, What little info they have will be displayed. As the bike has been exported it will be sparse if non existant as they dump data after a number of years. The info will not include the colour of the numbers, pre 72 the only legal colours where white or silver on a black background, the silver were mainly aluminium plates embossed with the numbers and the unembossed surface was painted black.
