Hi, my 1962 650SS has a twin leading front brake but with any identification on the outside of the brake plate. The brake plate has air holes and an air scoop with a wire mesh.
The only marking on the brake plate is either MD or M/D if that means anything.
Hopefully someone can identify the make of brake.
Manyn thanks Roger
If It has MD on the brake…
If It has MD on the brake plate that may be Merchant and Durwood, who were based in Essex and they sold many customising and speical parts for bikes. They were still going back in the 1980's. Their adverts would appear regularly in the magazines of that time. I think they were bases in Waltham Abbey or Waltham Cross.

Many thanks Anthony but M/D…
Many thanks Anthony but M/D appears to have either closed down or taken over as I did a Google check but no sign.
I have about 2mm left on the brake shoes before scratching the rivets but I don't know what the original thickness was. I would think 2mm indicates a fair amount of wear because the cable brake adjuster was almost at the limit. Have checked in my manual and this website but no luck.
Its a pity there is no data of things like brake shoe thickness, or is there?
Thanks again. Roger

I always thought you could…
I always thought you could go all the way to the rivets...but not so far as they score the drums?

Hi Roger,
As always with this sort of thing, a picture is worth a lot.
However, if your wheel hub/drum is Norton, then there is every chance that it is a Commando brake plate you have.
Does it look like any in the pictures in the models gallery?
Regards, George.
