Does anyone have an original toolkit they could send a picture of, I have a list of the components but would like to see what it actually looked like - including the roll/bag whatever. Not really necessary but would be nice to build up for the sake of completeness. Also, the spanners refered to as 1/4 x 3/16 and 3/8 x 5/16 double ended, are these open ended or box spanners.

It would be nice if someone would reply and include a picture. I have never seen an original toolkit but the Spare Parts List states the spanners were open ended and I expect that they were probably made by Shelley; box spanners were listed as an available extra.
They are really only of use for decoration; use 'real' spanners for proper work.

Hello Patrick,
I agree, they would be ornaments only, but a bit of fun and nice to put together. If they are Shelly, then they are fairly easy to get hold of. The tool roll etc might be more of a challange.

I did see that. That was one very expensive Jubilee but I have doubts about the tool kit. The 6" Pliers, Set of Feelers (2,4 and 12 thou), and Tool kit bag are missing. Also there should be two tyre levers and I personally would have expected the 1/4 x 3/16 spanner(part no SPU2/02) and the 5/16 x 3/8 spanner (part number SPU2/04) to match each other; I can't read the name on the spanner but they obviously don't match each other. The 1/8 spanner usually goes with the feeler gauges so it could be an odd one.
Hopefully someone knows.

The screwdriver looks like one from a Mecanno set.
I think it should be Meccano. Long time ago since I had one.

Andrew, do you have a copy…
Andrew, do you have a copy of the Roy Bacon 'Norton Twin Restoration' book ? It has a lot of good quality images of odd parts of the bikes. A must-have if you're getting into the detail of things like toolkits !
Here is a picture captioned as the underseat area of a Jubilee. It shows the Rexine roll quite nicely.
One thing that occurs to me is that the kits may not have stayed the same with the shift of production from Birmingham to Woolwich. The R.T. Shelley connection would have come to an end.
The combination of forged and flat plate spanners is not uncommon and on the earlier models, pairs of tappet spanners were often one of each - the plate spanner was good enough for preventing rotation while the other did the work.
I have a couple of those wire screwdrivers and they are all marked 'Villiers Magento'. They are a little stronger than Meccano, but not much

Thanks Richard,
Thanks for the photo and book ref. I will keep my eye out for a copy. I had not thought I would be too fussed about completing my little bike, but it grows on you. The photos you posted are interesting, quite right, you would have expected the spanners to match etc. For a 56 year old bike it is surprising how much documentation and the like survives, but tool kits seem to get lost.
Appreciate your help.
Regards
Andrew

The screwdriver in the pic…
The screwdriver in the picture is correct. I found this picture in Motor Cycling dated 12 March 1959; it's the first road test of the Norton Jubilee 250.

Long time since I saw a screw driver like that, not the best of British Engineering then....
Nearly all vehicle tool kits came with this style screwdriver, They stow well and don't roll away. Hardened tip, and you can put a tyre lever through them for a bit of extra purchase. Mine has "Jaguar" stamped in it
