Steering dampner knob search

Hi Michael,I had a similar problem on one of my bikes (not Norton) and the loss of the knob nearly caused a locked steering crash. The replacement was locktited on.I see these knobs at jumbles and I think one of the suppliers lists them. If after a few weeks you can't find one ,I will sell you mine which I doubt I will ever get round to fitting. Nil desperandom!.

Hi Michael- e bay is chock full of Repros - largely made in India - if this interests you . In my experience the black color of new Bakelite shifts to brownish black from u v exposure so if the brown patina is what you are after it will get there eventually- unfortunately this will require you to ride your bike on beautiful sunny days !

Another option is to use a wing nut of the type once used for bicycle wheels, before Campagnolo's quick release became common.

by now my email addressmust be all over this website anyway its annajeannette@btinternet.com right there on their away tomorrow its a nice original item I will never use it Has I have One Norton Manxman 650 form December 1960 and an April built 1954 Dominator model 88 I been sorting out the Model 88 since 2003 tinware, not easy to get has I bought it with its oil tank and tool tray and No other tinware, even the wheel hubs where from a later model so it finding these as well as two Half hubs for the right period and back plates and a fuel tank and seat pan made seat up seat cover was from Leightons Seats and covers brimingham in export grey with the piping around the top edge, later ones changed to piping on the back only the Manxman was Another story it had a number of wrong parts fitted and a number of issues mainly from missuse for earlier owners all the nuts bolts and washers had to be re-newed has most had chisel marks on them and wrong threads like UNC and the like, now all back to 26tpi cycle and whitworth and small fastings BA, and the engine has seen abuse it had to be re-built and parts re-newed the cylinder head was a mess, I had to sort this out along with the crankshaft its been re-ground to - 10 new vandervell shells, club new old stock god bless them yours anna j

The part number for the original steering dampner wingnut is/was 18336

The part that I am looking for was made of some brown bakelite (plastic) type material and had a nut cast into it to allow it to be screwed down on the steering dampner rod.

It had the scroll Norton logo cast into the upper surface.

Any help will be appreciated
