My Dommi 88 is fitted with an SS Camshaft ( marked T2219@3 ) it seems. Does this require Pushrods and Valve springs as used on the 650 SS and Atlas models to be fitted ? I came accross this advice in the Haynes Manual (chapter 1 -22 ) . My Cam is with Newmans being inspected for possible re-profiling and I now have 4 NOS Cam followers thanks to NOC members and the NOC shop. Thanks , Wayne.
Not really

As long as you ride it like most of us , with deference to its age it wont make much difference.

De-tune?
Back when I did the first rebuild of my 1959 99 in 1965, I put an SS cam in it but kept the same radiussed cam-followers and pushrods. I fitted HC pistons. I sold its original QR cam to Barry Lawton - Syd's son, who said he wanted a softer cam for his Domiracer on the IoM. I acquired the cam from a complete 88 engine which cost me £5 ! (I still have most of it and will be splitting it up for spares when I get a Round Tuit!) I will be selling the X1 cam, which is in good condition.
For my current rebuild (10 years and nothing happening!) I am going back to a QR cam, but with flat based followers - I had a local machine shop mill them down flat. I'm also fitting low compression pistons - flat head type. I won't be putting it back to its original "Special" spec (as John Hudson told me it was, ex-works) which had twin carbs, but it has the later, large valve head and siamese pipes. I'll be going back to twins because they look nicer!
So basically it will be a de-tuned version of its original form, mainly because there's no advantage in having a stroppy twin-carb, high-comp setup, which for my old legs might be difficult to start!

I have run an 88 and a 99 with SS camshafts and original pushrods and springs with no problems.
