Hello Trevor,

I cured a smoky start up on my 850, I have Boyer ignition. The ignition coil on the right pot turned out to be faulty so I replaced both coils {6 volt} and the problem has gone. Wipe a sheet of kitchen towel inside the exhaust, if it is black and the towel absorbs the coating that's unburnt petrol; if the towel is black and oily then the bore is passing oil past the rings. You say that this problem is on start up but don't mention the problem once you're out on the road. If this problem is on start up only then check your high tension current for faults and work backwards from there.

Many thanks I was riding and the ammeter fell to pieces and blew main fuse I joined amp wires together and got home, replaced the amp started up and it smoked but cleared after a few mins she,s charging but amp not working
