Slimline central oil tank capacity

I'm trying to determine how much oil to put into my central oil tank in a 1967 650SS to ensure I have the correct void in the tank to accommodate the crankcase breather function. I do realize the tank is in turn vented to atmosphere but if the tank is over full with oil I suspect crankcase venting will be effected in a negative way. Have included a picture to clarify the type of central tank I have

Had same question when starting up my Manx. Found that level must be lower than the return pipe top end inside the tank. As the return oil is mixed with air. Too high makes all oil in tank mixed with air. Too low level will also feed oil/air mixture to the engine. On other bikes too much oil in the tank will give leak from the filler cap when warm. When warm the oil level will be higher. On short circuit racing too much oil will give a long warm up time. Not so important if you use multigrade oil. The Manx needs 2 litres oil. And more than 4 litres will give an oil/air mixture. With the elephant foot tank. Of course amount of oil depends on how long distances you travel. Hope this will help.

Mikael, thank you for your reply all very interesting. I will put in 3 litres, Suspect the tank will be about half full and monitor the results. You raised many points that I had not considered.
