Sidestand from NOC

At the recent International rally in Belgium there were two Norton Electra's. Mine and Trevor Veale's. Trevor won best Lightweight sob .. sob..

Trevor had the NOC manufactured side stand but the bike appeared to lean a long way over when used on the flat. Trevor is thinking of getting the NOC supplied bracket cut and re-welded so the stand is steeper.

Trevor was running the correct 19ins front and 18ins rear tyres. I did wonder if he is using the correct length rear shockers. Anyone know what length they should be?

Has anyone else with a Jubilee, Navigator or Electra had similar problems with the NOC supplied side stand? Or can you report as a satisfied customer?

Not light twin or side stand but I did buy a centre stand from the club for my 57 model 50 a couple of years ago. It was totally wrong but remade it so it would fit. The club had no side stands for this model but thankfully Dale Middlehurst found on, less foot.

Non fitting stands appears to be a popular feature of Norton grief these days, unless of course we are talking Dommie or Commando AND that my friends is the nature of the problem in general, waiting and waiting to be acted upon!

Are we a Norton club or a Dommie and Commando club with others tagging along largely unsupported? Doing nothing means business as usual.

I don't feel unsupported by the club but I don't expect spares for my '39 16H to be as easy to find as for my Commando which of course has the benefit of Andover Norton in the background.

I voted for an Electra as best lightweight at the INR but I have no idea whose ! :)

I have fitted the NOC side stand to my Navigator and the angle of lean with it deployed is a little more than I would like but it is acceptable. When it's convenient to do so I slip a piece of batten underneath it. I never feel that the bike is in danger of falling over - my greater concern is that the rather shallow angle puts a lot of stress on the mounting bracket. I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable if the bike was carrying any extra weight, such as laden panniers.

I've just received a side stand c/w bracket from the NOC Shop (delivered in four wkg days!) for 1 '55 ES2 and the lean angle is fine. Just slightly off vertical. I would not trust it - in terms of strength - to take any additional weight, though. George

I believe the correct shock absorber length for the lightweights is 11.9 ins, measured between the mounting bolt centres. I've seen lightweights fitted with the more common 12.9 inch items, and this would certainly result in more bike lean when on the sidestand.

From your comments I gather the NOC supplied sidestand allows plenty of lean. Which will get greater as the pivot and stand wear. All resisted by the single extended 3/8 ins frame stud!

A batten under the foot of the stand sounds a great idea.

When I did mine I think I set it at 20? from vertical. It does seem spindley and weak. I don't trust it and only use it for convenience when I'm next to it.
