remove starter motor mk3 commando

Forums

Do I need to remove the primary chain case cover in order to take the starter motor out, I have removed the two visible upper motor bolts and the extra long bolt that goes through the primary chain case but it still feels solidly attached . Thank you kind folks.

The three bolts, 1 long and two shorter plus the power connections are all that you have to undo. If a starter motor has been in position for some time it can seem stuck but don't be tempted to try and insert a screwdriver and lever it out. Taping with a leather mallet and wiggling is a better idea.

i always screw in 3 longer bolts right in to the starter motor and with a small hammer equally tap the bolts should drop out.always works for me regards don

The length of the screw is not the issue .If the engaging threads are more than about 5 threads then you risk busting the starter end plate once it bottoms out.
