I have recently purchased two Norton wheels from Belgium which I intend getting rebuilt with new rims/spokes etc. however I am not sure about the originality of the front hub. It is an 8" hub but is of two pieces bolted together with the finning on the brake drum side a little smaller than the plain side. Any ideas please. I have attached a photo I think !

I believe that it was used…
I believe that it was used in all road models (except the Inter ?) Obviously, being so early, it will only fit the narrow forks without modification.
If yours is a proper Bracebridge Street Norton then you should be OK

Hi,
i don't think there is anything wrong with the bolt up hub, except maybe extra weight!
In fact the extra cast iron probably makes it more durable than the all aluminium lined one! A lot of I think these pre-1955 hubs were scavenged for racing, according to folklore, as I was led to believe they made for a better performing brake unit if set up right.
To me many later advances cheapened the construction costs of the machines and are not necessarily better products for the owner/rider.
Cheers

It looks like the 1956 bolt-up front hub. They soon changed to a proper one-piece full-width.
