Question on Barnett Clutch

Forums

Hello there,

I`m just doing different things on my 1972 Commando Roadster, cosmetic as well as technical things.

I have now fitted a Barnett Clutch, which has 1 clutchplate less than the original. With the original clutch it was no problem to shift the gears, but now it is sometimes a little tricky to shift 1 gear.

I thought about the reason "Why?"

Is it possible that there must be a slightly longer clutch rod? The clutch does not slip.

Has someone an idea?

Hi Uwe

An early 750 Barnett clutch set should have 4 friction plates and use the 3 existing steel plates if I,m not mistaken.

Just swap new for old and everything should work fine once the pushrod is adjusted properly. Your bike may have the later 850 type pressure plate, 5 friction and 4 steel plate clutch and you have fitted the earlier kit.

Thanks Neill, but while reading the question and answer. I found to have forgotten one important item.

I have fitted the CNW  Belt Drive Conversion 0600-12, ordered from The Netherlands.

My fault- sorry about this! I was too quick.

Hello there,

I have now been working on different things. The gearbox`s got new sealings and oil, have mounted the oilfilter kit, have been installing the anti wetsumping valve.

And I`ve also been installing a new clutch cable, which seemed to be a very good idea. I was making ideas into this direction for that the clutch didn`t press the plates wide enough. There is a difference in the length of the 2 cables. Now it works after a testrun to warm up the engine oil for an oilchange.

This shall be an update for others to find a point to look at.

Even the gearbox oil was a little too low and I`ve given new oil into the gearbox after installing the kickstart seal and an X- ring for the gearshaft.

Regards Uwe
