Plunger Front Hub Issue

Hi all,

I’m conscious I’ve probably done something stupid again but I’m hoping someone can shed some light this.

When putting my front hub back together the brake plate sits proud of the drum. When I got the bike there was a home made distance tube which I have replaced with a new one. The new one is definitely longer and refitting it, or shortening the new one, would solve the issue. I’m concerned about proceeding with this bodge without some reassurance from someone more knowledgeable! I’d prefer to understand what’s going on. I’ve attached a few photos.

Thanks, Mark

I think that what you have been sold is not the item you actually needed. Your new chunk is actually the bearing spacer for the front hub. It sits over the spindle. A shouldered tubular spacer sits outboard of this to space out the brake plate.

See attachments for details.

Plate R should suit your bike.It shows an earlier version of the bearing spacer with round rather than traingular endplates.

… for taking the time to reply. In my book R25 is C2/656 which is what the part I bought from Andover was labelled as.

Now you have confirmed I will look elsewhere for a replacement. I could put the one that came with the bike back on but it seems too short and there was damage to the spacers and lockring which tells me all was not well.

Mark,

Attached are the two types of front bearing spacers. Note the different lengths.

You need the smaller one (1.805") for a single sided 7" front brake.

… I appreciate the input. I have ordered another one from somewhere else. Hopefully it will be right this time. At least I’ll know immediately!

Cheers, Mark
