Hello All,
I bought this rubber petrol tank mount from the spares scheme the other day SS24 21B_23408 Petrol tank mounting front rubber bush new. The only snag is it does not fit either the frame or the tank being too small in every respect. Does anyone know what it may be?

I fell foul of that one John, it certainly isn't fit for purpose and even if you managed to get it onto the mounting spigot it wouldn't be thick enough to hold the tank! After much experimenting with various thickness of rubber tube I found a spare silicon suspension bush I had in the 'useful spares box' fitted perfectly once I had cut it down in length. The silicon gives exactly the right amount of stretch and cushioning so the tank is held securely but with sufficient flex that it doesn't vibrate - it is also very durable. Sadly I can't remember what it came of.....I think a Triumph Vitesse lower front wish bone. Shows you should never throw anything away in the workshop!

Rubber bush
Hi Nick,
It is coincidence that you should mention a lower wish bone bush- the first thing I thought of when I saw the illustration of the petrol tank bush on NOC Spares was that it looked just like the lower wish bone bush on an MGB. I have boxfulls of these but I don't think they fit.
A few years ago I got a petrol tank bush from the Club but it turned out to be just a length cut off a rubber pipe and that didn't fit either. The original - on the early machines at least-I think was a very simple rubber sleeve.

Thanks all. Mine had a piece of orange rubber hose--which I still have I think. I was starting to think it was me!
Cheers

I had a look in the NOCshop to see what 23408 looked like and it doesn't look like any petrol tank rubber that I have seen. I generally just wrap the spigot on the frame with a few twists of insulating tape to suit.
