Blue color for the Deluxe Jubilee. There is some old info on this site that recommends Chrysler Caribbean blue 80. Is this still the recommendation, has anyone found a better match.
Thanks
John.
Well the 1959 Spare Parts…

Did you get the reference to Chrysler from the NOC Technical pages ? I have a feeling that this is a mis-print. It does say Chrysler Caribbean Blue 80 as you wrote but I think it actually meant to refer to the Chrysler 180 car - so if someone had an old colour chart showing Chrysler 180 colours this might help. (The Chrysler 180 was built by Simca in France and available on the UK market. I wouldn't think any have survived as they were classified as 'junk' even when new.

John,
I used RAL 5019 Capriblue and RAL 1013 Perlweià (pearlwhite) .
The frame is powdercoated in pearlwhite
so I needed the same tone for the mudguards.
Don?t know how close the blue is to the original, I only found small traces
of the original blue paint on the front fork parts.
When I got the bike it was painted red with a black frame.

Hello John,
Uli's looks pretty close for a Standard Navigator but this was a different shade of blue to the 1959 De Luxe Jubilee. So it depends how much you want originality and who can say for sure now exactly what the shade was. I have a couple of trade counters local and both are very helpful in producing old colour cards from years ago and letting me go through these at their counter even though they know I only buy a few litres of paint.
There is also another norton Jubilee polychromatic blue from about 1963 on which I think is the best blue colour of all. I may be wrong but I believe that this poly blue is the same as on the Manxman. It is difficult to paint well but it has a superb lacquered finish- looks remarkably modern in fact and 2K lacquer is ethanol proof.
Anyway it's your bike - do what you like best. I keep thinking I should do mine in BRG and Old English White and then it matches my MGs.!

Thanks Patrick
My Jubilee Deluxe is 1959. According to Andy Sochanik its the 6th production bike, March 1959.
Ive managed to spray the frame with Rover Arabian grey which I think is very close. Ive seen some other sprayed frames but they look a bit milky.
RS Bike Paints do a Tunisian blue (plus black) for the Deluxe. Has anyone used their blue.
If you type in Dove grey in the search bar there is some info on the paint.

Well I won't be dashing to use RS Bike paints; their prices are completely eye-watering. Their paint seems to be cellulose and a litre costs £65 plus courier delivery plus VAT ; invoice dated 06/06/2018 in front of me from the local motor factor shows; 1 litre Post Office Red paint 2K @ £17.00, 1 litre hi-build primer + activator @£18.42. Total invoice including VAT £42.50.
This is for good quality branded paint and I complained that his prices had gone up as last year I had bought a litre of Dove Grey and I think the price was then £15. I only used part of this litre so I had half a litre or so in stock.
So the total cost of paint for respraying this year my 1959 Jubilee was around £50 in total, and that is in two pack which is ethanol resistant. I suggest you go and see your local motor factor - he can only say Trade Only - .

Well the 1959 Spare Parts list states the colour as Tunisian Blue and states it is "synthetic air drying enamel ". This isn't much help as it is not listed as a BS colour.
Chrysler (Hillman Avenger or Imp colour ? ) ceased in the UK about 40 yeas ago so I doubt if anyone has the mixing code for this but it is always worth calling at the paint counter of your local Motor Factors. Most of them keep loads of old colour charts and any paint man can match a colour just by eye.
