oil pressure relief valve construction.

Forums

Having removed the valve on my 1962 Norton 650SS to clean out any sludge I have found that there are no shims inserted in the nut at the end of the assembly and yet the parts supplier indicates there should be 2. Before ordering two I am concerned about over pressuring if I fit the two.. The supplier sets a new complete valve  to 60 psi. Has anyone any idea what I should do because the valve maybe 60 years old and I am not averse to spending to buy a new valve if the 60 psi is suitable.?

At Bracebridge the PRV on the Dominators was shimmed to open at between 45 psi and 55 psi. The internal spring was the key factor in this setting so often shims were not needed. Other potential influences might be the machining of the piston and the drilling of the oilway passages.

When I purchased a new spring, from a well-known supplier, I was informed that the quality control was now so good all were to the same specification in terms of performance.
