Are the nut types are used on the engine studs just full nuts or was there a mixture nuts fitted. On one end of the studs I have nyloc nuts and other end full nuts. Should they just be full nuts.
Thanks
John.
Engine stud nut types

Hi John,
You seem to find it easy to ask questions that are not so easy to answer.
Lots of people will tell you that theirs is fitted with........ But this is how they left the factory
.........On a lightweight with an early style gearbox. 3/8 BSC unless stated otherwise
Head steady 5/16 BSC stud - Plain full nuts each end
Front upper engine mount - Plain full nuts each end
Front lower engine mount - Plain full nuts each end
Lower rear engine mount - Plain full nut at sprocket end, special nut with boss for centre stand spring bracket at the other end.
Upper rear engine mount - plain full nuts each end.
........On a lightweight with later gearbox.
Head steady 5/16 BSC stud - Plain full nuts each end
Front upper engine mount - Plain full nuts each end
Front lower engine mount - Plain full nuts each end
Lower rear engine mount - Special nut with longer boss for centre stand spring bracket and hole surround on slotted frame at the each end.
Upper rear engine mount - plain full nuts each end.
I'd recommend a plain washer under all the engine mounting nuts. Including the special nut on the early gearbox types.
On the later gearbox types no washer under the two special nuts at lower back.
The 3/8 nyloc nuts were used by the factory for the two frame studs at the steering head and the lower front frame stud. Six nyloc nuts in total.
If you have a parts book, look at the section 'engine mounting' and you will be able to work some of this out for yourself. You will now know the part number of a 3/8 full nut and a Nylock. This helps you check out the other frame fastener nuts. If a shakeproof washer is used, this will be identified too.
Cheers
Peter
