I have a triton with norton early forks, I have external springs wich give a very hard ride , thinking of adding a little more oil or fitting internal springs as well ? also I suspect the two crome bolts are cross threaded before I hack away any tricks to get them off they are loose but not comming out thanks Steve
I would have thought that…

Try a wedge under the front wheel to lift it and compress the forks. Or use an adjustable tie-down strap or similar between the bottom yoke and fork axle to compress the same chunks. Either will help push the damper rods and top nuts upwards.
Attachment shows Long & Short roadholders but not the damper rods that pass through the stanchions.
thank you for a propmpt reply, I thought they would be the same as commandos ( they came out easily ) compressed forks out they popped attached to the rods, unscrewed them, the rods with no internal springs just dropped down ?
on external springs looks good but bottoming out frequently ( a harsh ride) so think I will fit internals as well, but suggestions welcome. again thank you, I put the grinder away !!

External springs rust but unlike the internal springs do not turn the oil into grinding paste, if they are bottoming out too often then you need to add spacers to move the normal movement lower so not hitting the bump stop or increase the spring rate with stiffer springs.
