Hi,
Have just started / got a Norton so exciting times ahead! However have just noticed some brown thick residue from the brake rubber between the lever and housing (see photo). Didn’t notice when I bought it but though I’d ask whether this is normal and before I investigate further? It is a mk3 850 interstate.
Also as an aside the side stand rubber had deteriorated and metal marked the frame so after searching forums was thinking of touching up with humbrol enamel gloss black paint is this okay? Apols for the hopefully simple questions but thanks for any help.
Nathan

Hi Hans, thanks for that…
Hi Hans, thanks for that confirms my worse fears but very helpful. Have had a look and cleaned up see pic, rubber looks okay, will check fluid and put back together later. Thanks again Nathan

Looks like corrosion to me, aka rust. You can remove the lever without the piston shooting out and give it a wipe off.Clean it up with a squirt of wd40 and check operation of the brake ,and make sure the fluid is clean in the reservoir. HOWEVER if the rubber boot is damaged ,it means a rebuild, which is not that difficult.
