With work on the Naviagtor going apace I have come to another typical querky Lightweight Norton question - when I stripped the engine the oil pump had no gasket between it and the crankcase and the two retaining bolts had no washers. None of my gasket sets has an oil pump gasket and one isn't listed in the spares catalogue or on the NOC shop list of gaskets as far as I can see. Thinking back to the early 80s my fickle memory suggests my Jubilee didnt have a gasket or washers either.....but!!!
Can anyone sonfirm that the oil pump doesn't use a paper gasket or washers under the two retaining bolts?
Cheers......elderly confused Nick!
No washers but gasket!

Thanks Ulrich, I knew I had…
Thanks Ulrich, I knew I had seen a post of one of your rebuilds whcih showed that but I couldn't find it! I've ordered a gasket from the NOC shop and will ignore the temptation to use washers! I hope yours is still running well - my rebuild is proving as challenging as only a Lightweight can be!
Best wishes
Nick

No gasket was used
No gasket was used.
If you change to a 6-start oil pump - remember that BOTH gears need to be changed.
You know you have a matched pair, if you park one on top of the other and they make a perfect right angle - 90deg.
If either gear belongs to a 3-part system - the angle will be wrong.

Hi Andy, thanks - sage…
Hi Andy, thanks - sage advice as always, that is what my memory was telling me but that is notoriously fickle! Mine is a late Navigator with the 6 start pump so I just swapped the gears and it runs smoothly.
Best wishes and I hope you Navigator is all in one piece unlike mine! Nick

I converted my Navigator to a six start oil pump drive to increase the oil flow. The there are no wahsers under the nuts on the retaining bolts but I used a paper gasket under the punp. It is the same as on a Commando or Atlas engine.
