N15CS Seat

Forums

Hello, I have a N15CS without a seat and want to make a 3/4 length seat, bit like P11.
Does anyone know any other seat pans that fit the N15CS frame.
Thanks Richard

Richard; The N/G15s have a Matchless frame if that helps. Mark

Thanks for feedback, bought as a project with about 70% there and finding it a bit of a minefield. Richard

The N15CS, G15CS used three different types of dual seat. From 1963 to 1965, 1966, and 1967/8. You could ask R.K.Leighton to make you one, but you will need to know what year your N15CS was dispatched, as this will determine what type of dual seat you would require. The P11 series used three different seat configurations. Two were constructed in fibre glass, and the last ones, the P11A Ranger 750 used a similar dual seat with a metal pan to the 1967/8 N15CS,G15CS, the later G15CSR street scrambler, and the later Matchless G80CS models. The N15CS, G15CS frame was also altered, as the earlier models of the series used a shorter top stud, that holds the top of the sub frame to the main frame. The later models with the different dual seat or from 1966 used a longer top stud, and two extra larger locking nuts.

Thanks for reply, my thought was to get Leighton to make one but I need to know which is the best seat pan

Frame number 120294
Engine number N15CS 120294
which I think makes a 1967 bike

Does the nose of the seat have two downward facing "prongs" that fit onto the large through bolt that secures the rear subframe to the main frame loop. And ...... if so do the two "prongs" bolt to the seat or are they welded to the seat pan ?

If I can identify the correct seat I can look for a used one to get a seat pan that fits

Thanks Richard

And the answer is.      Without the frame and engine numbers you are getting no where .   With the numbers you will find out what you should have but as the parts are hens teeth you are in for a trying time as anyone who has parts to sell are  unlikely to really know what they have .!!

Well, I thought this might be tricky

any pointers gratefully received, Richard

As your N15CS was dispatched in 1967 then your N15CS is a later coil ignition model. The dual seat would therefore have the third metal dual seat pan with the two prongs at the front to fit into the spaces provided either side of the longer top frame stud. The rear of the dual seat will have a heavy T shaped bracket, that bolts to the under side of the rear of the dual seat. This then protrudes to wards the rear, and then bolts through a hole in the rear mudguard. The rear bolt, has a chromed acorn nut on its top. This hole in the rear mudguard over time will then widen, due to the vibration, if that through hole  has not been reinforced, from the under side of the mudguard. On one side of the top middle frame stud where the dual seat brackets push into, there is an ignition switch bracket 033058 that holds the ignition switch, if you were wondering where it was meant to go.
