Picked up a chrome Slimline front mudguard today at an autojumble. It's clearly a repro item (you can see underneath it has been made from 3 seperate strips, rather than a single pressing as per original). The chrome is for now very good, although Indian items have a poor reputation in this respect, not being triple plated. So my question is, how best to preserve it in use? I thought about puting some underseal on the underside, but then thought this might drip off in the heat (!) of summer, with adverse effect on the tyre.
So what to do?

I use a brushed on coat of Waxoil (car body protector). Easily removed with a brush and white spirit if needed.

Wax the top surface as well, fills the pores in the chrome so the water does not get to the steel.

Hi Michael, I cleaned up the underside of my chromed mudguards with a solvent and then spray painted them silver from a pressure can. The paint will protect the chrome from moisture.
