after I believe that i have achieved an effective seal around the case by way of narrowing the band and bonding on some 12mm diameter closed cell neoprene cord I am still a bit paranoid that the chain is dipping in some oil, i get a small drip after a run but believe this is from the sliding plate. Today I received one of those borescopes with a screen , £43 from Amazon, poked that through the inspection hole and had a glorious view of the chain sitting in oil up to about the middle of the rollers. Very pleased with this little gadget

Yes a very usefull bit of kit. A selector bolt dropped into my Van gearbox where they usually enter the diff and wreck the box , a box out and full recon job. I peered around the box thro the drain plug and with the camera and a magnet on a wire saved the day and a big bill. Sounds like you may have a tad more oil in there than the clutch would like.
