I hope some of you like the photo of my Commando which I rebuilt over the last year. I’ve done a full engine and gearbox overhaul and rewired the bike along with Pazon, Podtronics etc. There are quite a few non standard parts - switchgear, Brembo front brake, 961 indicators, early model tail light. Pretty well everything was renewed / refurbished.
We’re allowed to go 5k from home now (Dublin) so I took advantage of a short run!

Thanks, The bike was off…
Thanks,
The bike was off the road for a couple of years after the cam lobes wore down badly and I didn’t have time to do a major repair. Once I started the restoration it took me about 14 months off and on. I’m afraid to add up the bills but suffice it to say I’ve increased the profits of AN, RGM and a few other businesses!
Ian.

Here are a few more. I’d bought the bike from O’kane motors in Armoy - a sponsor of Joey Dunlop in 1999 and sold the bike in 2005. In 2016 I found the receipt from the sale 11 years earlier and tracked the guy down. He had only done 100 miles in that time as he’d got other bikes and lost interest in it. We did a deal and I got the bike back - I’d always regretted selling so this one’s a keeper.

Mirrors
Yes, a nice looking Mk3. The drilled discs and that shiny Brembo calliper set off the right side view.
Mine is 7 75 manufacture and does not have the curved rear brake lever.
Ian, could you let us know the brand name of those bar end mirrors please? and do they fold in easily or need an Allen key? After forty years of looking at the blur which the standard mirrors on the long stems give, I am going to fit bar end ones.

Mirrors
I got those mirrors from Oberon — website is Oberon-performance.co.uk. I bought them at the NEC Birmingham a few years ago - I think they’re about £65 but they’re nicely made and give a great view without any blur. They fold in easily without an Allen key - just pre set what stiffness you want. The tax disc holder is one of theirs, nicely made but discontinued as you don’t need to display discs anymore.

Front brake on right
Hey Ian,
Does the bike still pull up straight ok with the both brakes on the right? I much prefer the look with the caliper behind the fork like that and was thinking of doing the same with mine, if I ever get round to nailing it together that is!
Regards, Al.

Hi Al
Yes no problems at all - I changed to that Brembo set up 3 years ago and was very happy with it compared to the RGM Grimeca on the left side. I’ve only done 100 miles since the rebuild and found that the bike steers straight hands off as well and the brake is really powerful and progressive.
cheers,
Ian

Handlebars
Hi Michael
your machine looks immaculate! I fitted my bars about 15 years ago — they’re stainless steel and from RGM. About 30 inches wide and 32 inches to the end of the mirror bases.
