Hi Al.
I wonder if I could ask a non-Norton question? I have a Guzzi V50 which is fitted with the notorious Bosch electronic ignition. This has an effectively vertical advance curve at 2,000 rpm which obviously is not ideal. The trigger is a tab on the crankshaft that passes a coil (one for each cylinder and obviously wasted spark).
I've wondered whether something like the RITA amplifier could be used with the existing trigger? Obviously again one for each side. The Bosch electronic box has a positive and negative feed from the ignition switch and a pair of wires going to the trigger.
This image purports to be the ignition advance curve.....

The quick answer is no. I never have nor would I ask any one to trigger any electronic ignition with any other P U than the one it was designed for. There will will NOT be a negative and positive feed from the ignition switch as I expect the bike is negative earth and the Ign.sw. will only switch the live (positive). Although this subject is off Norton hopefully the answer will help some Norton owners. If you want any more info on this subject Ian then please get in touch directly.

Many thanks Al, that was what I thought although I do live in hope!
Yes, I didn't describe the feed correctly - as you say the negative side is the earth and the positive feed from the ignition switch.
I suspect the actual circuit within the Bosch amplifier is fairly straightforward but new items are unobtainable and the best ones are 30+ years old. As it happens, my Guzzi is running fine at the moment but I like to think ahead.

Interesting, not that there has eve been an issue with repairing RITA ignitions, I have been doing it for over 10 years. There won't be many people buying and fitting these boards though as the ability to handle a soldering iron to the level needed hear is not with many.
