Lightweight Tank Petcock Thread Size

Hi,

I've just acquired a recently resprayed lightweight tank for my Navigator and can see that the internal threads in the boss for the petcock are covered in clear lacquer.

Before trying to screw in a petcock I need to clean out those threads.  I might make myself, or buy, a thread chaser but what size thread is it?  Also is there anything I can (very carefully) apply to the thread to soften the lacquer first?  It's 2 pack.

... has a 1/8" BSP thread. I think it's common to all lightweight models.

Just replaced the tap on my Navigator, 1/8" BSP.

Could the clear lacquer be tank sealant?

Yes its 1/8 BSP , a bit confusing for some as it measures more like !/4 " , but thats BSP for you. . I would carefully pass a smaler drill through it  to clear away the worst of the laquer and then clear with a BSP first tap.

You're right, it is a bit confusing!  The taps in the NOC shop (22061 and 22061L) are both listed as 7/16", but in each item description it says to "use 1/8" BSP fittings"!!  Not sure what they mean by that.

I think in order to soften and then remove the lacquer that's on the tank threads I'll shove a small twist of cloth into the 'ole and then carefully moisten it with drops of paint stripper or acetone from a pipette so it doesn't attack any paint elsewhere.  It's definitely lacquer not tank sealant. Fortunately I've not fitted the tank yet so can position it upside down on the bench to work on.

If you are without a tap , i can probably sell you one that will do. Exactly orriginal   single plunger main and reserve taps with the correct facing outlet are very rare . 7/16 probably refers to the outlet thread which i dont think is BSP !!  .
