I may have a problem brewing and would welcome comments from the wise.
My 1956 Dominator 99 is running fine with the exception that the gearbox has started to lock in first gear when I come to a stop and it takes a lot of juggling and force to get it out and into neutral. Ok, I hear you say don't come to rest in first gear but many times one needs to come to rest in first to aid manoeuvring the bike to a parking position.
Is it possible to investigate this symptom without having to remove the gearbox and what is the likley cause of the problem ? I understand that I have to remove the engine to get the gearbox out and I am not looking forward to that if indeed the engine does have to come out as well !

Clutch
Evening Robert. Thanks for your response. Whist I understand where you are coming from, I have had no problem hitherto with the Bob Newby clutch dragging and since it's installation it has operated perfectly. Having said that I will double check it in the morning. I assume that after the usual freeing of the plates via the kickstart lever, if after putting the gearbox in gear and pulling in the clutch lever , if the rear wheel rotates freely then the clutch is not the problem.

The simplest test is to pull the clutch in and kick the bike over. A good clutch should offer no resistance at all and spin really freely. Another possibilty is that you are getting engine oil passing the crank seal and affecting the clutch, I am having some of that myself ,I am having to drain off the excess after every ride , time for a stripdown.

Its possible that the sleeve gear bushes have tightened which would have the same effect as a dragging clutch. All reasonably easy to fix.

Hi George, It sounds very like you have a draggy clutch . There has been plenty of posts on how to improve your clutch.
