It's Alive...!

Forums

Bit of excitement this week, short in the battery area during MOT led to smoke also escaping from the wiring in the headlight area. Left the bike in the shop for them to fix & decided it would be a good idea to get them to fit my replacement headlamp loom & Smiths electronic tach.

The shop are struggling, they've got the engine running, but are confused because the engine block seems to be showing a charge of 12 volts. Also struggling trying to get the tach to light up - investigating this led to the live engine discovery.

Any ideas (I'm hopeless with electrickery)?

Commandos are positive earth which is unusual to younger people. If your garage don't know this then they will be confused. If they measure between the negative terminal on the battery and anything metal on the bike they will get 12 volts. Personally I would be dubious about letting someone mess with the electrics who didn't work this out.
