Isolastic Questions

I am just in the process of changing the front isolastic on my 1971 roadster. I am using the vernier isolastic for the replacement. I have accidentally inserted the rubbers etc in the wrong way round so that the adjustment is on the left hand side rather than the righthand side. Will this cause me a problem or can I leave things as they are?

I would also like to know what stops the vernier adjuster from moving after you have made the adjustments, or is this something that has to be checked at regular intervals/

Thanks for your help.

Did you modify the front tube for MK3 verniers so it was the same both sides or did you buy the Vernier kit that fits the front tube unmodified with unequal sides.

To stop the vernier adjustment moving the central bolt needs to be tightened, this then holds it all in place.

I bought a complete vernier kit from RGM that doesnt need modification to fit the tube with unequal sides. Do I need to change the rubbers round?

I will have to look at my spares box and see if it matters, if you did not have to force anything then you should be ok. I will check tomorrow, Your only other issue is long term adjustment will differ from the factory so over a few adjustments the engine/swingarm will be moved differently, periodic lining up of the wheels is needed anyway and would cover that.

The engine is in a cradle with the swingarm attached to it, this whole assembly only connects to the frame through the iso's. As you adjust the iso's they move slightly as the wear in the PTFE washers is taken up and so move the cradle with swing arm attached. If both verniers are on one side the whole assembly gets moved over, if one is on the left and the other on the right then the whole assembly pivots as the wear is taken up. Its only thou's but over time and at the end of the back wheel it is more.

Turn it around correctly, my parts bin only has proper MK3 ISO bits in it but there is enough difference in thickness sizes of parts between the 2 sides to make it safer to get it right.

Thanks guys, I was hoping to avoid the hassle of trying to get the rubbers in again, but it will teach me to be more careful next time
