I have been told as we get older we become wiser so I guess I am still a teenager.
I removed inner and outer gearbox covers on my AMC box to fit a new kick start shaft but it was in a gear. Now when I refit inner/outer covers I can only get two gears. I remember refitting both covers on my AMC box years back and I seem to remember the gear selector had to be in a different position.
Can anyone help please and I promise to stop being stupid.
No Roger you are not being…
No Roger you are not being stupid, It can be a fiddly job getting it in order and working. I recommend going through all the gears levering the quadrant with a screwdriver before fitting the outer cover ,have the back wheel off the ground so you can turn it at the same time. Can't remember whether to put the camplate in Neutral or second for the assembly !.I do remember that the early Haynes manual has the layshaft 4th pinion going in back to front.!. Shoulder should face the back of box.

Sorry I meant to write certain and not different position.
