Front and rear disc wheel building

Forums

Hi all

I've built a couple of front disc wheels a while ago but this time I'm just not getting it right. Stupidly, I didn't take enough measurements and photos before I started. I've got a set of new stainless spokes for both front and rear wheels. Starting with the front can anyone please tell me or preferably send me a photo or three (philbaker631@gmail.com) of both sides of a disc front wheel with the disc removed showing in detail the area where the spokes meet the hub and showing the view through the hub from the disc side so that I can see what the spoke offset is - one side trails the other half a spoke hole apart and I can't remember which it is. Also measurements for each of the four spokes (disc inner, disc outer, non-disc inner, non-disc outer) from the chromed surface of the rim to the centre of the spoke hole in the hub in each of the four cases would be very useful.

Mk 111 rear wheel is still in one piece so I'll be taking rather more care when I dismantle it!

Thanks in hope!

Hi Ashley

Hope you had a good Christmas!

I've got spokes as per the attached pic. Just need to know (1) which are the inners and which the outers. 8 gauge (thicker) are both for the disc side and the 9 gauge are for the non-disc side as far as I understand it.

And (2) when the inner spokes are viewed with the disc side of the wheel towards me which way does the step back go on the non-disc side? Should I step the inners on the non-disc side back one half hole gap when viewed from the disc side? I'm overthinking this horribly! Best email me on philbaker631@gmail.com. Pics and advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks & regards (07768 105456)

Phil,

I took lots of photos of my Mk3 wheels (front and rear) on a truing stand before I dismantled them - I can and send them if you like? Can only do that by phone this week though.

Hi Andy

Yes please. I'm on WhatsApp 07768 105456. I can send photos from WhatsApp to my Imac so no problem.

Ashley from Andover Norton suggested that I look at the section on wheels in the Mk111 parts book and using that plus the spoke photos on AN website I have constructed a spoke identification photo - attached in case you ever need it.

Regards

Phil
