Evening all. Just seen an Electra for sale on carandclassic.com. As I collect photos from ads for future reference, on taking a closer look at this one, it appears to show an inline oil filter mounted below the oil tank.
Any comments on the merits or not of this mod to a L/W?

Not so easy
Do a search on this site.
"oil filter Electra"
Frank Anderton offers some very good advice for Electra owners wishing to add filter. Look at his bracket design.
Remember: set the filter off centre to nearside to avoid fatter Electra centre stand spring. : standard mudguard will foul the filter housing if the bolt holes in bracket are too high. My experience is the bolt holes for filter in Frank's design 6mm too high for my std mudguard. : suggested bracket from NOC left me scratching my head. Frank has more experience of running with filter than I.
No problems so far with downward filter installation as above.
I chose the more expensive filter from AN with barbed inlet/outlet ports for peace of mind. All filters on offer are unf screw mount. Per Commando.
Both Frank and I would recommend a special filter removal tool that grips from below. Not much room for a strap wrench.

Paragraphs
I do know about paragraphs and carriage return. But these days the website chooses to ignore all my efforts and rolls paras together without line spaces. Sorry. Peter

Morgo make a smaller filter…
Morgo make a smaller filter if you have deep pockets! I have one mounted off the centre channel like the one in the photo, some of the cartridges are smaller than others.

I'm going...
... to have a look at this bike tomorrow. I'd noticed the filter as well. Looks exactly like a Commando item so I will take the points made above into consideration.
