I've been dismantling my Navigator engine and getting close to needing to remove the crank cases from the frame. The work shop manual suggests that pivoting the front down tube of the frame forward is the way to do it, is that right?
I'm sure I've seen something on the forum about this but can't find it.

Engine removal
When undoing the engine mounting bolts support the crankcase with a floor car jack or something like that.
You need to slacken the top frame bolts behind the steering head an remove the rear one to pivot the frame member out of the way.
Also secure the the bike itself or else you have a lowrider look because the fork will also move! I did it by shimming the lower frame loops with some wood.
Getting the crankcase back in the frame was more fiddly in my case.

front frame bolt
On my Electra the rear frame bolt was rusted solid in the front frame member. I could remove the front bolt and that also works OK for pivoting the front member out of the way of the engine.

Hello John!
Yes it is the best way to get the engine out of the frame. Did it twice with no prpblems.
