I've been looking for a decent front fender for an Electra I'm working on. My question is about the same fenders being shared across different models form that era. Will an Atlas fender, Navigator, Jubilee, Slimline, etc fit?
Thanks.

Electra front fender
Hi James,
I hope you find the correct front fender for your Electra. Two widths of forks, two mudguard bridges and two fender types as Michael advises.
I found an early narrow front fender and by making a special bridge fitted it to my later wider forks.
Not a problem on Electra as the recommended tyre and wheel size always stayed the same.

Front fender/mudguard Electra
The front mudguard fitted to the Electra, is the same profile as was fitted to all Lightweights (& D/Lux Dommies), in that its the 'deep' shape, rather than the 'blade type fitted to Standard Dommies, The Jubilee front mudguard is the same pressing, but has different drillings for mounting it. Hence it appears not to 'hug' the front wheel - as Jubilee has 18" front wheel.
Notice the 'Standard' Dominator (last picture inset) has a 'blade' mudguard. All these catalogue pictures are from the 1961 brochure - apart from the Electra, which is from the 1964 brochure. As mentioned above, beware of the 'wider' fender/mudguard designed for the 7 3/8" forks (with the steering lock), as it will appear to fit - but the first time you apply the front brake, the fork shrouds will remove the paint either side of it!

Fender or mudguard???
Ah, the inequities of the British English Language and the American English Language.
Perhaps when the USA was first settled we should have adopted the Mohawk language instead of the English model.

The Electra/ES400 shares its "Short Roadholder" forks with most of the Norton range of the same era, with the exception of the Jubilee.
Bear in mind that Roadholders come in 2 widths, 7" and 7 3/8" (to allow for a fatter front tyre). A quick check is to look at the top yoke ("triple tree"), if its got a steering lock fitment, it will be the later size.
So yes the mudguards are- theoretically- the same!
Good luck with your search: there are "new" ones advertised on ebay etc originating mainly from India, but reports indicate the quality and fit is not very good.
