I am hoping that someone call tell me how easy it is to fit a Dommie 99 engine into a Model 50 350 single featherbed frame and what modifications (if any) would be required. It would appear my frame on the 99 is from a 1960's such bike although it is always possible the frame number has been read wrongly as its powder coated. The frame does have double down tubes at front to hold engine mounting whereas always thought a single had just one down tube. Any help appreciated. Hugh
99 frame
Thanks Tim especially for the prompt reply. The bike is wide line and is on the road having been rebuilt by a previous club member. I was just wondering what had been done to the frame, if anything, as I just had a response from Records that frame was a model 50 350 when it left the factory while engine is a 1959 600 99. From what you say it sounds like it may have been something to think about if you wanted to up performance. I must say it is a pleasure to ride over the 3 years I have had it and when I can get out on it. It is beautifully balanced as my first exposure at 65 to a Norton having had Triumphs and BSAs in my youth and as a coupe of classics over time. Thanks again. Have a safe and good Xmas. Hugh

Late singles came with…
Late singles came with featherbed frames. I have a not yet restored ES2 in a 99 wideline frame. I can't see that the previous owner who fitted that engine had made any alterations to the frame. In parts book re widelines, there are different frame part numbers for 50/ES2 and 88/99. So some thing is different, don't know what.

I have the opposite combination
I have a slimline Model 50 of no pedigree as I know. The frame code is 18 suggesting its for a 650 but the frame does not have a flat on the top cross member to allow the single engine to fit, maybe that was for the 500 engine?
Difference I can see is the front bottom engine mounting lugs of which two are cut down but the surplus used as spacers on the remaining location as the single cylinder crankcase is narrower and only has a single bolt fixing.
Cheers

The featherbed frames are similar for both the 99 and the Model 50 The latter will have a flattened tube on the front of the right hand top cross member but this does not affect anything when fitting a 99 engine in, it does if fitting a single engine into a twin frame. You will have to make up new front engine plates but these are quite simple and I can send you a pattern if your frame is wideline, I don't know if the engine plates modified for a wideline frame are the same fit for a slimline frame, I have never tried.
