Hi,
I have stripped down my Dommie 88 Roadholder forks. On measuring the springs I have found them both to be about 17.5" long, when they (apparently) should be 18.6" long (p/no 18813) and ref Mick Hemmings' article on "Norton Roadholder forks strip".
Question is, clearly my existing springs are wrong, or worn out so I need to fit new ones - but in measuring the distance between the top and bottom spring locations the new springs will be under slight compression with the top nut tightened down.
All the info I can find just says "reassembly is the reverse of dismantling" - but if the spring will be under compression - how much should it be? i.e. how far down the rod do I tighten the top nut (#13968)??
Many thanks....

The fork springs should be under compression (not tension) when fitted or else the bike will sag/settle significantly when on its wheels.
There are several videos on youtube on how to set up close to the correct sag and also many web pages. I think it should be around 35mm, but would stand correcting as it's been years since I did mine.
