Does any one know where the right deluxe anti vibration oil tank mounting grommets can be bought, borrowed or otherwise? The grommets are quite model specific and have a steel bush in the central hole. I have tried several Companies that sell grommets, but none of them have anything with the right dimensions. Mine have perished to the point where I'm worried the tank could fracture. Not an unknown problem!
I have made similar grommets…

Thanks for that Robert. I…
Thanks for that Robert. I admit that I was expecting to have to make them myself, but it would be nice to get the real thing. When I bought my 250 in the eighties I had to make various bits for it including a steering stop and a lifting handle. I knew so little about the bike, there being no internet or Ebay that I bought it without any bodywork and was saved, only when it turned out that the lightweight spares man lived eight miles away from me. I bought a full set of bodywork from him and then discovered that my Jubilee had been given a Navigator front end. Bonus!

HI Kev, The grommet with…
HI Kev, The grommet with internal tube is a great way to provide a resilient fixing between parts that prevents fractures but allows the fixing to be tightened up enough to avoid the usual " shedding of parts " that comes with a vertical twin. I also use a little black setting mastic in the assembly so it stays together when removed. Too many grubby corners in my garage !.

Is the one listed in NOC shop the wrong size?
There are several grommets available in NOC shop for lightweight models listed under 'Rubber items' e.g. part no 23159.
Are none of them suitable?

NOC grommet
I ordered the grommet that NOC Spares claim is the one that fits. Unfortunately it is small enough to fall straight through the holes in the frame, has no steel bush and is 100% incorrect. I've told Neil and I'm hoping that he takes that particular item off the website. I'm also wondering who else has ordered the front fuel tank mounting rubber and managed to force it onto the frame lug because to me, it is wrong as well. I have the original 1959 spare parts list and by scanning and enlarging it you can see more or less what the real bits look like.
Over to someone who knows!

Ahh, the infamous front tank…
Ahh, the infamous front tank mounting - there’s a thread of mine (early last year I think) about this. I resolved it by using the NOC part pushed into a tube of tight fitting rubber - see photos

DeLuxe oil tank mount grommet
Hi Kev,
As you have the parts in front of you can you tell us what size grommet you think is needed?
The tube? Length and outside diameter.
The oil tank mount? thickness and inside diameter of hole.
And the washers either side of the tube? What diameter are these?
Perhaps you can see a grommet that would fit this application from
Open / Cable Type Rubber Grommets
The stock list from Grommets UK Ltd.
Please share it with us. And is the grommet used in more than one location on the De-Luxe?. I'm only familiar with the standard Lightweight oil tank.
Regards

Hello Peter.My grommets…
Hello Peter.
My grommets are rather worn out, but these are the measurements I believe will do the job.
Outside diameter of grommet. 27mm
Hole in panel 19mm
Panel thickness 1.5mm
Grommet thickness 10mm/11mm, probably 11mm
Steel bush length 9mm
Steel bush outside diameter 11mm
Steel bush inside diameter 8mm
As the steel bush outside diameter is 11mm and the bush is a snug/interference fit in the grommet, the hole in the grommet will need to be 11mm.
The outside diameter of the grommet is probably the only measurement that can be played with.
I've tried a few motor factors and web site, but nothing so far.
Good luck and all the best.

Mounting grommet
Thanks Kev,
Maybe some reader of this forum will look at your picture and tell us it's very similar to the .."Honda, Kawasaki, Ford, Singer, Renault.......".grommet which is available.
You never know your luck.

I have made similar grommets for my DL and other bikes using a box of assorted Grommets from Halfords or E-Bay and a short length of alloy tube cut to size with a hacksaw from a stock length of tube from Wikes DIY. To avoid tank fracture you can pack in / out with a washer to get the tank in an unstressed position.
